The Correction for the Tutorial of the Big Teaching

After handed the tutorial, the teaching assistant, however, told the whole class to meet the professor in her office for the correction for the tutorial.

◇ Before the meeting: We have little thoughts on the mistakes we have made on the tutorial, and therefore are quite curious and willing to know. One of my teammates, Olivia, was full of enthusiasm on teaching and organized us on the meeting with professor; however, because of the time reason, it was me and one of our teammates that went to the office of professor at the end.

◆ During the meeting: The professor opened the meeting in quite a concise comment that “we want to teach too many things.” The language we teach is assumed a totally new one, which means elements we teach should be controlled in a limited amount. The “too many” in her words including several aspects, and she provided some suggestions:

1. The material we prepared are too various, for instance, the culture introduction is not closely related to the language contents we are going to teach, and so should be eliminated.
2. Activities are great and necessary, but the selection and design of it is essential.
3. The actual sentences and vocabularies should be limited amount and all cling to a theme, so choose them wisely for those more representative.
4. The evaluation method should be aimed on the teaching contents directly.
5. There are different aspects of language learning such as speaking , writing and listening. Remember it should be uniform from the beginning of the teaching till the end.

◇ After the meeting: According to the professor’s suggestion, we modified our tutorial. We cut the plan down to focus only on our theme: ordering food in Korean, and let all the activities associated to the theme. The examination method was also changed since what we were going to teach is the oral aspects of language while Kahoot is mainly for recognition.Our tutorial had a massive modification, and we learned a lot in fact.
